Stretch out of your comfort zone with the English UK Teachers' Conference 2015
13 August 2015

Get unstuck from your teaching habits and explore the second language acquisition (SLA) hall of fame with IATEFL President Marjorie Rosenberg and established author Scott Thornbury at the English UK Teachers' Conference 2015, taking place on Saturday 7 November in London.

Marjorie Rosenberg, a lecturer at the University of Graz, published author and president of IATEFL with over 30 years experience teaching EFL, will ask why we keep doing what we have always done.

Our daily teaching schedule often takes up so much of our time and energy that we don't have the chance to take advantage of opportunities to stretch ourselves or take on challenges in other areas. Rosenburg will work through the classes we usually teach, the style, methods and technology we are comfortable with as a basis to work together and 'get unstuck'.

Associate professor and expert in the field of language and of language teaching methodology, Scott Thornbury will review the famous names associated SLA and their role today.

The relatively recent history of SLA research has produced a small number of case studies that have an almost iconic significance in the literature: you only have to mention Alberto, Wes or Nora and scholars will know exactly what feature of language acquisition you're talking about. Thornbury will suggest their continued relevance to today's classrooms.
