Annual Conference plenary speaker Alastair Dryburgh bills himself as "the strategist for those impatient to do great things and frustrated with the usual methods."
He's planning something a bit different for English UK member centres, running a hands-on session exploring ideas designed to invigorate ELT businesses as well as delivering a talk comprised of useful ideas from his entrepreneurial career.
Alastair, a former finance director, is the author of two books on business; writes columns for Management Today and Forbes.com ; and has spent the last 14 years working with companies to reinvigorate growth by employing inventive solutions.
Looking at the ELT industry and its challenges, Alastair says: "I think there's still a huge need for people to learn English and a huge value for non-English speakers to learn - it's got to be a very worthwhile place to be working. An investor asks himself one question: does this business have the right to exist? Would the market miss it if it wasn't there? If the answer is yes, then in his own words, 'everything else is fixable'."
