Lake School of English: managed closure after over 40 years of ELT excellence

English UK member Lake School of English have sadly announced a managed closure. On Friday 1 November, the school said goodbye to their last students.

The school based in Oxford has been a long-standing English UK member, joining in April 2004.

Susan Barber and Carmel Engin, directors of Lake School of English, said: "After 41 years of delivering excellence in English language teaching, having welcomed and changed the lives of tens of thousands of students, it is with great regret that we are no longer able to continue in international education."

The independent school was established in 1978 and welcomed students of all abilities and nationalities to study English.

The school ranked in the top 2% of English language centres in the UK in 2019 by achieving 14 out of 15 strenghts in their last two British Council accreditation inspections.

Susan and Carmel said: "The Lake School of English is highly regarded because of the tireless work and dedication of a superb team of extraordinary people. Highly skilled, experienced and dedicated staff have supported the delivery of some terrific courses."

In 2018, Lake School celebrated 40 years and welcomed 800 students from 56 different countries, including Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Japan and Argentina.

Susan and Carmel said: "We would like to thank you, the English language teaching community, everyone at English UK and our colleagues at Quality English. We have very much enjoyed our positive, friendly and professional collaborations."
