UKLC boosts Eddie Byers Fund
Huge thanks to the team at English UK member UKLC who have handed over almost £3,500 to the Eddie Byers Fund.
UKLC raised the cash during a 500-mile cycle ride and walk from York to Westminster via its centres in July, with the aim of both raising money and raising awareness of the plight of UK ELT.
Their journey ended with an ELT day of action, when over a hundred staff, managers, students and owners of English language schools demonstrated outside Parliament and met MPs.
The Eddie Byers Fund was created in memory of English UK's late chief executive and exists to transform lives through education. In its first three years, before the pandemic, it has supported refugees and asylum seekers gain employment, enter education and access essential services and feel a part of their communities in the UK as well as funding teacher training in Tanzania to help young pupils attend high school, which is taught in English, and English teaching in Palestine.
