Celebrate English and win prizes for originality and coverage
27 April 2016

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, students from Languages United in Bath performed Shakespeare quotes in the city's iconic landmarks.

Saturday 23 April was a special day for language lovers. It was both the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death and UN English Language Day.

To celebrate, and to raise the profile of our industry, we're offering prizes to member centres marking either (or both!) of these events with students. Prizes will be awarded for originality and effective campaigning, so try to get coverage in your local paper or radio station, lots of shares and likes.

"Celebrating Shakespeare celebrates the importance of the English language and how important Britain is to English language teaching," said Language United Director Dan Bryan.

Submit your entries by Tuesday 10 May.

How to take part

  • Get creative with your students to produce a Shakespeare or English language inspired video, collage, animation or anything you can think of
  • Publicise it - try to gain coverage for your centre, English UK and UK ELT in the local newspaper and across social media
  • Let us know by Tuesday 10 May - email entries to Naadiya Rawat, with the subject line "Competition", including a press release, photograph, details of any press or radio coverage and a short video clip from your campaign.

As well as having fun, the campaign is to raise awareness of our industry, give your centre coverage and experience of engaging with the local media

Winners will be announced at English UK's Annual Conference & AGM on Thursday 19 May.
