In 2018, we've been marking the 175th anniversary of Macmillan with conferences, events and celebrations around the world.
When brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan founded their publishing company in 1843, they created a place that would recognise and value great contemporary writing. Coming from a poor Scottish family, they shared a love of reading and a belief in the power of books to communicate ideas and to change lives.
As the company grew, so did the brothers' belief in the importance of learning, as they launched the scientific research journal Nature, followed by the Palgrave imprint, before firmly establishing Macmillan as a world-leading educational publisher with Macmillan Education.
175 years later, we are building on the Macmillan brothers' commitment to learning and innovation and celebrating the progress that has been made in education globally thanks to their vision.
The brothers' love of learning, reading and education is as relevant today as it was in the 19th century, and we are proud to be continuing their work as we lead the way in pioneering and forward-thinking solutions for educators, academics and students across the world.
