Description of centre
Fettes Centre for Language & Culture (FCLC Edinburgh) is a boutique English Language School at Fettes College, Edinburgh, Scotland. Established in 2006 and accredited by the British Council in our second year of operation, we aim to provide an exceptional programme for 10-17-year-olds.
Lessons take place in the morning from Monday to Friday. Students do an online placement test prior to arrival, the results of which are confirmed by a speaking test done at the school. In this way, we aim to have everyone in an appropriate class by the second day of their course. We offer tuition from A1 to C1 level in a positive learning environment where English is the medium of communication.
After breakfast, students go to class on campus, where they will spend the morning learning and bonding with their teacher and new friends. Each morning consists of three sessions, all based on the weekly theme and taught by the same teacher, which will include assigning and correcting homework, language input, task-based activities and engaging material based on our excursions.
All necessary materials are provided for use throughout the course and students will build up a portfolio of work in their folders to take away with them at the end of their course. All our classrooms have interactive whiteboards and there is Wifi access throughout the campus.
At FCLC opportunities to learn and use English do not end at the classroom door but continue in the cultural programme. A great variety of whole-school and house activities are organised in the afternoons and evenings and students go on excursions to the city centre on two afternoons each week with their teacher to experience attractions such as Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum of Scotland.
Students stay in traditional or modern boarding houses located within the grounds of Fettes College. Each house is comfortable and homely, accommodating about 50 students plus staff, who provide 24-hour supervision in a mixture of single, twin, triple, quad and dorm style multi-bedded rooms (average dorm size 8 beds, ranging from 6 to 14).
