Description of centre

Bishopstrow College is a leading independent International Boarding School offering English language and academic pathway programmes to prepare international students, aged 7 to 17, for entry into leading boarding schools in the UK and overseas.

The College operates as a traditional British boarding school, but with an innovative four-term academic year. Students enrol at Bishopstrow for a short time, 1, 2 or at maximum 4 terms improving their English to the required standard for them to sit entrance examinations to the leading UK boarding schools. In addition students follow the curriculum suited to primary, middle or Pre-A level/IB stages of school entry. We do not insist that students stay at Bishopstrow for a set length of time, but treat each student as an individual and regularly liaise closely with parents via their agents on student progress to jointly agree when it is in the student’s best interest to move onto their new school. Unlike most International Study Centres (ISCs) Bishopstrow believes students should not be required to stay for a minimum of 1 or 2 years but should transfer to their chosen mainstream school at the earliest and most appropriate time.

Bishopstrow is not affiliated to one specific school but enjoys well established relationships with most UK schools. Being completely independent enables us to prepare our students for entry to any UK school of their parents’ choice, for example, Badminton, Charterhouse, Dulwich College, Harrow, Stowe, Wycombe Abbey and The Dragon School etc. Classes are small (up to 8 students) and each student has an Individual Learning Plan. Places are very limited to ensure each student receives close individual attention and support. The College has an excellent record of enabling students to enter their chosen schools, often exceeding their parent’s expectations. We operate a 4 term year with no exeat weekends or half-term holidays to disturb the flow of the term, to support our Intensive English Programme and for the convenience of overseas parents.
