We are delighted to host this event in Tokyo to promote accredited UK English language teaching (ELT) providers and the warm welcome extended by the UK to international students.

Join us at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, for a UK-focused information session and the opportunity to connect with English UK member centres and sector partners in Japan over a networking lunch.

This event dovetails our attendance at ST Alphe Japan 2024 on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 December.

Why Japan?

Now is timely to highlight the UK as a welcoming study destination for Japanese students.

  • The Japanese Government has set an ambitious target of sending 500,000 Japanese students abroad annually by 2033, up from 223,000 in 2019.

  • Japan is currently the 8th largest source market for global English language study abroad students, yet the UK's share stands at only 9%. This presents a significant opportunity to boost the UK's presence in Japan.

  • The expansion of the Youth Mobility Scheme (up from 1,500 to 6,000 per year) and the removal of the need to enter a ballot has strengthened the opportunties available to experience life in the UK through this visa route.
